There are a several very nice department stores in Osaka, including Hankyu, Daimaru, Parco, and more.
The best shopping in Osaka is located mostly in two different areas of the city; the Umeda/Osaka Station shopping, and then also Shinsaibashi/Namba shopping. Below we divide this list into those two areas, and then mention one store in Abeno.

— Hankyu Department Umeda
Hankyu Department Store is the biggest department store in Osaka, has many famous luxury brand shops, and is centrally located as part of the Umeda/Osaka Station. Hankyu is popular with not only visitors, but also with the local people of Osaka.

Osaka City Shopping
Umeda/Osaka Station Area
There are many excellent opportunities for shopping in the Umeda/Osaka Station area. The central Umeda area is a combination of multiple train stations and several interconnected buildings, malls, and department stores. As you exist one of the trains, you can walk from place to place, completely inside of this complex. The station itself is called by many names; The JR line refers to it as “Osaka station,” Osaka Metro Subway calls it “Umeda station,” Hankyu line and Hanshin line call it “Osaka Umeda station.”
There are several department stores in Umeda/ Osaka Station. Hankyu department store is one example; offering shopping at the brand shops such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Dior, and is very popular with visitors and local Osaka people.
Beyond the major department stores, Umeda/Osaka shopping is also famous for malls like Lucua and Grand Green (all connected to Osaka Station). The Apple store (one of two in Osaka), in in Grand Front, another of these malls.

Shinsaibashi and Namba Area
The shopping in Shinsaibashi and the Namba area is also among the best in Osaka. From Shinsaibashi station to Namba station there is a big main street called Midosuji street, lined on both sides with famous international brands. There are various luxury brand shops, department stores, and shopping malls on this street, and in the surrounding area. One of the two Apple stores in Osaka is also located on Midosuji street.
There is a Daimaru in Shinsaibashi. The Daimaru brand is one of the most famous department stores chains in Japan. The Shinsaibashi Daimaru Osaka features several brand shops. PARCO Shinsaibashi (a shopping mall that offers fashion and dining) is also in this same neighborhood. Shinsaibashi is very popular area for tourists, and a fun place for local people as well.
To the south of the Dotonbori river is Namba station, with many more opportunities for shopping.
Nipponbashi Shopping
Nipponbashi is on the south side of the Dotonbori river, to the east of Namba station. Nipponbashi offers several shopping streets famous for anime goods, plastic models (called “plamodel” in Japan), action figures, card games, and more. There is a street called “Otaku Road” in Denden Town which attracts many foreigners who are interested in anime.
American Village in Nishishinsaibashi
To west of Shinsaibashi is an area called Nishishinsaibashi, which also has many popular shops for fashion, interesting cafes, etc.

In this area, there is an area called “American Village,” usually referred to as “Ame-mura.” It is a popular local spot, centered around Triangle Park; a place where teenagers and others gather to hangout, drink, smoke cigarettes, and to be seen.

The area is lined with popular second-hand clothing stores and vintage things. There are plenty of cafes (like Streamer Coffee Company), bars, and restaurants in this area; most of them are very welcoming to foreigners. You can see “international” food such as pancakes, hamburgers, pizza on this street. Weekends see long queues at the takoyaki shop at one corner of the Triangle Park.
Both foreigners and local people enjoy shopping in Ame-mura; a very stylish part of town.

Kitahorie and Minamihorie Shopping
The Horie area (Kitahorie to the north, and Minamihorie, toward Dotonbori river to the south) in Nishi-ku, Osaka, is less crowded, but also well know for its stylish and trendy shopping. Orange Street – called Tachibana-dori – is a three-minute walk west of Triangle Park; this whole area provides more excellent examples of design and fashion in Osaka. There are many cool places to shop and eat, including boutiques, craft coffee cafes, imported furniture, and interior shops.

There is even a street in the Horie area called “Happy Street.”
Tennoji Area Shopping
Tennoji station has several train lines such as JR line, Kintetsu line, and Osaka Metro line. There are some nice shopping places connected to Tennoji Station such as MIO, Abeno Harukas and Abeno Q’s mall.

In Abeno Harukas, there is a Kintetsu department store from B2- 14F and a lot of people enjoy shopping there.
Tennoji MIO and Abeno Q’s mall are both shopping malls that you can enjoy fashion, gaming, and dining.
Outside Osaka City Shopping
Lalaport Expo City
Lalaport Expo City is located in Suita City, that is north from Osaka City. Next to the mall, there is a big park called Expo 70 park (an important place for local people) where the Osaka Expo was held in 1970. In the same area, there is a Panasonic Stadium, where you can see the soccer game.
Lalaport Kadoma Mitsui Shopping Park
Lalaport Kadoma Mitsui Shopping Park is located in Kadoma City, north east from Osaka City. It is big shopping mall and next to the mall there is a Costco (many people go shopping there as well).
Rinku Premium Outlet
Rinku Premium Outlet is located next to Kansai Airport, only one stop the train station. It is easy to access and you can buy brand goods at reasonable prices. The Rinku outlets are popular with local people too.

Osaka has several shopping districts and lots of shopping arcades. The two largest shopping areas in Osaka are Umeda in Kita-ku ward and Namba in Chuo-ku ward. Both areas have large department stores and underground shopping malls as well.
The two areas of Shinsaibashi and Namba form one of the best places to go shopping in Osaka. There are several train stations in this area, but the two most important are Shinsaibashi Station and Namba Station. The area in between those two stations offers excellent shopping and entertainment. The two areas are separate by the Dotonbori River.

The area in Osaka Station (also called Umeda Station, it is one big, sprawling station and shopping area) is one of the largest shopping areas in Osaka. It is a very big, interconnected series of stores, shopping areas, and different train lines – finding what you want is not easy.
For this article, we separate the Umeda shopping district into two areas:
