Occupying a warm spot on our list of the best pizza in Osaka is Pizza Bar Full House, in the Nishishinsaibashi district of Chuo-ku.  PizzaBar FullHouse is fun place, smack-dab in a party district; a good time, without being too noisy, or too touristy. If you can work a night at Osaka’s Pizza Bar Full House into your plans, you’ll be glad you did.

Osaka is a pizza town. And Pizza Bar Osaka delivers a delicious pizza experience, and is just generally a good time. It’s the location, it’s the mix of indoor/outdoor experience (which for a warm Japanese city can be ideal), it’s the half bar – half pizza place format (it is both). After a long day, it was a great place to relax, to eat pizza and drink beer, and to unwind.

On the night we showed up (which may have been a Sunday?), we stood around outside, in a disorganized line for maybe 15 minutes before they sat us down. At peak hours, getting a seat might be more of a challenge. We ended up scoring a great table inside.

It is not a big place, but holds a decent crowd. There are maybe four tables inside, a five-seat counter facing the bar, and another small counter space outside by the takeout window.

Osaka’s Pizza Bar Full House has a rather extensive menu of specialty pizzas. They have a few classics like Pepperoni pizza, as well as the Margarita pizza and a four-cheese Quatro pizza (which are everywhere in Japan). There are “less serious” pizzas like the Hawaiian pizza (more below), and cultural trainwrecks like the Loco Moco pizza and the Queema Curry pizza. Then they have a few pizzas that strike me as uniquely Japanese; like the Tartar Salmon pizza or the Tuna Corn pizza (which may come with mayonnaise on it, you might want to ask).

While I love this spot for many reasons, this is the kind of place where they will try to put a raw egg on your pizza – if you’ll let them. It is a Japanese thing, perhaps an oversupply of raw eggs? In that way, Pizza Bar Full House is a very “Japanese” pizza shop.

From their extensive collection of choices, I had narrowed down the list to the Hawaiian and the Queema pizza (“The Queema? – I was feeling experimental). As I often do, I asked for a recommendation. The guy taking our order didn’t hesitate, and pushed me toward the Hawaiian; “BBQ sauce,” he said, “Japan-style.” He seemed pleased when I went with his suggestion.

The BBQ Hawaiian was, in fact, delicious.

I am the kind of guy that wants beer with his pizza; so beer it was. But Pizza Bar Full House does have a full bar, with a whole page of cocktails.

There is also a whole page of side-menu items to consider. We added a salad to our order (which was probably a Caesar?), and it was fresh, and better than you’d expect from a pizza joint.

As for music, (looking at my notes from that night) I know they were playing mellow, reggae cover tunes, and random pop classics from the ’80s.

Of course I did my “pizza test” – can a slice of Pizza Bar Full House pizza be picked up? The answer is, maybe. The picture here was the better of the two I took that night (with the other slice taking an immediate nose-dive, all the cheese dripping off as it did).

Their pizza is very thin crust, but can be picked up (sometimes). And because the pizzas are relatively small, they are a good size for how thin the crust us; works out great.

I am a bread guy. I think they could make the crust more essential, but their pizza is a HIT just the way it is.
Excellent spot.

While we were there, some white girl in baggy jeans and a crewneck sweater shows up. She took a seat at the counter, and had a beer while she waited for a take-out pizza. It was a great neighborhood moment – very relaxed, local, casual, comfortable. It made me love the place. There are plenty of tourists (maybe mostly), but the vibe is very comfortable.
